Tips & Hints

Paul Castles, TISCH School of the Arts, New York

• Please write in clear simple English – avoid jargon.

• Acronyms – assume we don't know what they mean.

• Ensure that your budget figures add up – check and check again.

• Please call us if you are unsure about anything – don't guess!

• We try to make our objectives and guidelines as clear as possible, so please read the principles and criteria carefully to ensure your project is in with a chance!

• It is worth reading our case studies, grantee stories and annual reports to get a better understanding of what, how and who we fund.

• Write in specific terms rather than generalisations – especially regarding track record and outcomes.

• Remember that we receive hundreds of applications so it is important we understand your project as succinctly as possible – the application has set word limits and these cannot be exceeded.

• Make sure your travel dates meet the funding round timelines.

• Scan copies of all necessary documents before submitting the online application form. This includes two signed reference letters from relevant teachers or mentors, and confirmation of your study, such as a letter of acceptance.

• Get your application in on time!
